Drop-November Schnibble

 This month for the Another Year of Schnibbles project Sinta and Sherri chose a 'Little Bites' pattern from Miss Rosies Quilt Co called 'Drop'.  Little Bites are made using the 2.5 inch 'candy' squares. I used 2 mini charm packs of Marmalade. I really liked how it came out. I think the pattern would be really pretty in autumn or Chritmas colors too. I may have to make some more. It took my awhile to trim down each step in the block construction but it worked out well. The pattern was pretty easy to make. The pattern gave three options for the pattern. I choose to make the larger version that finishes at 20 inches. I think the smaller quilts would be really cute too
.It is hard to believe that one more quilt will finish off a year of Schnibbles. Now to get them all quilted in the next year! This has been such a blessing to be a part of this this year. I have learned a lot about quilting and my accuracy in piecing has improved a lot. 

Desert Gift

As a marriage expert, sharing advice and recipes to make marriage work, Jill saw her relationship with her husband as the model of how married life should be. So, it came as a shock to Jill and everyone around her when out of the blue, her model husband declares he wants a divorce. Jill is left to wonder what went wrong and if everything she worked for and the advice she had been giving for years had meant anything at all. Through this journey, she rediscovers herself, God and what relationships were really all about. The announcement sends Jill on a soul searching journey. She discovers a lot of things about herself, most things that she doesn't like. She also learns how to trust in God and have faith. Isn’t this what we all need to do? Trust God more in our everyday lives? This book made me rethink some things and while it is not my favorite book, I did enjoy it.

Amish Prayers

Amish Prayers" is a collection of prayers that were translated from "Die Ernsthafte Christenpflicht," a German prayer book that dates to 1708. All of the prayers are beautiful, powerful and deeply meaningful. They are an expression of profound faith, and there is nothing simple or simplistic about them. The prayers are profound, spiritual, and open the heart to God. This is a great book for personal devotions. While we don’t need rote prayers to bring u into God’s presence, these prayers are all very meaningful and spoke to my heart.

Lily's Wedding Quilt

Lilly has always been in love with Jacob, but never did she think she would end up married to him, yet that is exactly what happened. She wonders if she is merely settling, or is it actually the will of God. She works hard to keep her heart protected, but finds herself falling in love with a husband she never expected to have, but fears what will happen if he never feels the same.

There is a level of sexual content that just does not belong here, in this genre. It was the most sensual of books of Amish fiction. I usually pass my books on but did not feel like I could pass this one on to be read by my friends. The whole book centers around whether a married (for convenience) Amish couple is going consummate the marriage.  Lilly's Wedding Quilt reads more like a dime-store book.

Hurricane Sandy and Hubble October Schnibble

 Hurricane Sandy struck yesterday  We lost 2 trees on our property. One big tree fell across our driveway. If my husband hadn't been home by then, he would not have been able to make it into our driveway. Thankfully it did not fall across any power lines.

 About an hour before that we lost a tree in our backyard. This tree didn't do any property damage other than to take out two burning bushes and a hydrangea bush.

Our lights flickered some but thankfully did not lose power. Today we have had showers and a little bit of wind. Maybe some thunderstorms later. School has been cancelled for the last two days. Many trees are down, some roads closed and thousands without power.

I chose to make Hubble as my Schnibble of the month. I took quite awhile deciding on my fabric. I decided to use Double Chocolat. I love the bold colors. I chose to make a larger version. Mine finished at 74 inches by 74 inches. Unfortunately my pictures did not come out the best. Lights are starting to flicker again so I want to post this in case we do lose power. I really love the colors and hope to get it professorially quilted one of these days. The weather is to wet and yucky to take a picture outside. My house is not big enough to lay it out to get a good picture. The lighting is kind of dark to thanks to Sandy. You can't tell from the picture but there is a narrow border of the charm fabrics of Double Chocolat and then a 4 inch border of the background fabric.

Speck-September Schnibble

September kind of snuck past me. I realized yesterday that the end of the month was today. Somehow I had been thinking all this time that the end of the month was tomorrow. I had to quickly sew this month's Schnibble. The pattern this month is called Speck.These Little Bites patterns by Carrie are so fun! 
They are patterns designed to be used with Moda's new Candy--packs of 2.5" squares.one charm pack can be cut to yield 4 stacks of 2.5" squares, so these patterns are a great way to use "orphan" (one charm pack only of a given collection) charm packs.  I used up part of a charm pack of Blessing and part of one of Stars and Coxcomb. There were parts of both charms packs that were left over from earlier Schnibbles. The border fabrics were fabrics that I had on hand. I really love love this quilt. It has a vintage Civil war feel to it. I have had it all the cutting done for a couple of weeks now. The actual sewing did not take long. I did have one problem when I cut the final border for the "O" quilt. Either my measurements were off or the directions had a mistake that I didn't catch earlier. The border was to short by about 2-3 inches. The fabric I had picked for my outer border was all gone. I had used up every bit of it so I cut two 2 1/2 inch squares of my middle border to make up the difference. I think, when the quilt is quilted, I will put buttons in the corner squares. Visit  Sinta or Sherri to see the parade of Schnibbles. 

October is a bigger quilt so I won't be waiting to the end of the month, I hope. :) I really like that we knew what the patterns were for the September and October. I will be making Hubble for my October Schnibble. I have the background fabric and have some charm packs that I need to figure out which ones to use. I also have a fat quarter bundle that I may decide to use. This is what the cover of the pattern looks like by Carrie.

Dimestore-August Schnibble

This month's pattern for Another Year of Schnibble is Dimestore. I wasn't sure about the pattern at the beginning of the month but ended up loving it. I wish I had had another charm pack to make the wall hanging but I was using a leftover charm pack called Stars and Coxcomb. I love the fall colors. I had just enough scraps of the background fabric to make this table runner for fall. I will enjoy using it on my table this fall. My project needed to be finished today as we are suppose to be bringing home a 4 month old German shepherd puppy tomorrow. She was suppose to come home next Monday or Tuesday so i am scrambling to figure out what to do with her on Sunday and Monday as we take our oldest back to college.

Paper piecing is difficult for me. I loved the bowl pattern when I first saw it so I decided to give it a try. Once I got the directions figured out (the first part of the pattern took me an hour with a lot of seam ripper time) it went together fairly quickly. These bowls remind me of my grandmother's kitchen. It has an old time feel to it. I really enjoyed making this pattern and am glad that I persevered. Regina definitely has a great pattern and this is a very interesting blog hop to be a part of. This was my first blog hop to participate in.

July Schnibble Quilt

For July, we could choose any pattern from the Schnibble line to make. I chose to make Betsy. This is an older pattern. I borrowed the image from the Fat Quarter Shop.

 This pattern came out in 2008 o I'm sure lots of people have already made it. I choose to make it out of scraps of patriotic fabrics. I thought this was appropriate for the month of July. It is also in honor of two of my son's friends who are Marines. 

The grass always makes the quilts look wavy. Oh well.. At least you get an idea of what it looks like. Can't wait to see the parade on Wednesday of what everyone decided to make and to see what the pattern for August is. Visit  Sinta or Sherri to see the parade of Schnibbles.

As of now, I have no job for the upcoming year. I lost my job due to low enrollment. The school I was at is now done to 35 students. This maybe the last Scnibble I can make. We'll see if the budget can stretch to add a new pattern and charm packs plus background fabric for the next 5 months.

Leap Year- June Schnibble

Leap Year is the free pattern that Carrie Nelson gave to anyone who had participated in the Year of Schnibble program this year.

I choose to make mine out of scraps that I had gotten from my local quilt shop. I would have loved to make it out of Vintage Modern but with no job for the fall, it jut wan;t in the budget. The free pattern certainly helped out a lot. Thanks Carrie.

This pattern was very easy to make. It went together very quickly and was easily made in a day. Though I did spread it out over 4 days.I can't wait to see the parade at Sinta's & Sherri's blogs on Sunday.

Lazarus Awakening: Finding Your Place in the Heart of God

Joanne Weaver took a familiar passage and made it come alive for me. I loved the new insight I gleaned from this book. I had not read the previous ones in the series so this was my first exposure to her writings. Lazarus Awakening speaks about how God deals with the stones of unbelief, unforgiveness and unworthiness that cover the tombs of our lives.Our relationship with Jesus is the most important thing in our lives but do we act like it.We are encouraged to wake up from our spiritual slumbering and live the vibrant life that Christ has called us to and has equipped us for.

Leap Year

Friday, Carrie of Miss Rosie’s Quilt Co. gave everyone a free pattern of “Leap Year” for those who have participated in this year’s “Another Year of Schnibbles” (THANK YOU CARRIE!!). It  releases to the general public l Wednesday for PDF and a couple of weeks in print.

What a generous gift Carrie has given us. It is a great pattern and looks like it will work up quickly. June is a busy month with the end of school and graduation parties going on. I will be working on report cards this week as well as administering CAT testing to my 4th graders. My high schoolers are going to be taking their finals soon. SAT's were taken yesterday.

DOC

I finished my Schnibble quilt last night. I really love the pattern. This month the pattern was DOC. It is a card block which I thought went together very easy. I had no problem following the directions. Everything went together very easy. I think this is my favorite quilt so far. Buddy, our cat, decided he would like to be in the picture.

I used Rouenneries Deux by French General. I just love this fabric. So crisp and sweet. I love the reds and grays in this line. I think I see more French General in my future.

April Schnibble Quilt

The pattern for April was Summer Days. I really like the light airy feel of this quilt. I used 2 charm packs of Swanky with a plain white background fabric that I had at home. The flying geese were not that difficult to make. I would have used the flying geese ruler if I hadn't been close on background fabric.
