Chasing Sunsets

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Karen Kingsbury comes the second novel in a brand-new series about divine intervention and the trials and triumphs of life—the dramatic story of a woman desperate to find deeper meaning in her life.

Growing up in a comfortable home, Mary Catherine wanted for nothing. Though she loves her wealthy parents, their lifestyle never appealed to her. Instead, Mary Catherine pursues meaning through charity work, giving away a part of herself but never giving away her heart.

Mary Catherine lives in Los Angeles with her roommate, Sami, and volunteers at a local youth center with coach Tyler Ames and LA Dodger Marcus Dillinger. Despite Mary Catherine’s intention to stay single, she finds herself drawing close to Marcus, and their budding romance offers an exciting life she never dreamed of. That is, until she receives devastating news from her doctor. News that alters her future and forces her to make a rash decision.

Inspirational and moving, Chasing Sunsets is the story of one woman’s deep longings of the soul, and the sacrifices she’s willing to make in search of healing.

This is the second in the Angels Walking series, stories about angels assigned to walk on earth. The angels are involved in what are called "Angels Walking" missions on earth, to help those they are assigned to defeat some evil circumstance or even move our characters along on the divine path God has laid out for them despite the odds against them from the enemy. This book can be enjoyed without having read the first one in the series. Although the main characters from Angels Walking, Tyler and Sami, appear in this one, this book focuses more on Sami's roommate Mary Catherine, and Tyler's best friend, Marcus. Two angels, Jag and Aspyn, are given the assignment to watch over Marcus, an LA Dodger pitcher, and Mary Catherine, roommate of Tyler's girlfriend. Mary Catherine has a serious health issue that convinces her loving Marcus is not a possibility. The enemy of God sends his demons to thwart the good work Marcus is doing for youth in a dangerous and gang dominated part of the city. The two angels have a great deal of work ahead of them.  The characters repeatedly have encounters with two individuals who "happen to be in the right place at the right time" and the outcome is something unexpected

The storyline will tug at the reader's heart strings until the very last page. "Chasing Sunsets" is a reminder that when I am in the midst of pain and not fully understanding my circumstances, I should turn to God not away from him. I love when that Karen's books always remind me of God's important truths. At the end of the book, Karen shares her own story of what she is convinced is an angel encounter, reading that made the novel all the more exciting for me.

I really enjoyed this book as I have all of Karen’s other books. I am looking forward to the third book in the series that will be released later. All of Karen’s character are believable and inspire me. This is another book that I couldn't put down and didn't want to end.

*I received a free copy of this book from the author.
